Remembrance Day: Veterans or War Dead

In our new Canadian conservative landscape, it seems Remembrance Day is taking on a tone of remembering those who serve now, or those who are living veterans. The day was created to remember the war dead. I've always thought of it as bit of both, but mostly remembering those who died in the past, in uniform and out of uniform.

If the emphasis is being shifted to those who didn't die, or those who died in current conflicts, are we remembering at all?

Fav. Boston Pizza Dish A Heart Attack On a Plate!

Ignorance is bliss. Oh I knew the Cactus nachos at Boston Pizza were by far the worst thing I could ever imagine eating, but seeing the numbers in black in white is going to make my once-per-month plate of happiness difficult to swallow.

So here it is, the cactus nachos have 1880 calories with 128 grams of fat. But they're soooo good!  Maybe if I brought my own treadmill to the restaurant? Maybe if I walked home afterwards, taking the long way, you know, via the North Pole?

Here's some of the items commonly ordered by others in my Boston Pizza Food Orgy group:

Calories

Fat

Cactus nachos 1880 128 (4 Big Macs)
Bandara Bread 960 54
Pizza Bread 500 12
Dean Evans Chicken Fingers 780 39
Chicken Quas. 900 39
Spinach and Artichoke dip 690 38
Chicken Nachos 1430 72
Nachos 1320 71
Choc. Brownie Adic 600 19
Choc. Explosion 890 50
Mushroom Caps 490 41

Gentlemen, we're screwed.

Get Out and Vote (talk radio thoughts)

Anyone who doesn't vote, please hand in your ReginaRadio.com membership cards.

The province is going from wanting-to-hang-on-to-power idiots to evil, hateful idiots.

I like the NDP for trying to expand Medicare, which is something I'd like to see, but they really are a centrist party these days, trying to be all things to all people.

Things I've heard on talk radio this week while driving:

  • John Gormley going from being a populist to a partisan on his show during the campaign (we all know his political stripes but he usually makes some attempt to appeal to everyone)
  • All radio hosts, and the local newspaper, of course, not having one good thing to say about the NDP. Are we really in that bad of shape? Are high oil prices alone responsible for our prosperity?  No. They may not have taken much initiative but at least they didn't totally fuck it up (although I'd like to see more work done in health care.)
  • "You still have the Crowns? How archaic" -Charles Adler while interviewing John Gormley about the Sask. election. Yes, how archaic this crown experiment has been. I hate having to pay so little for my utilities. Let's go to the free market and pay two or three times as much, shall we? (By the way, did you get the sense that Adler was intimidated by Gormley? He kept putting Gormley down. Me thinks Adler smells possible competition for his job down the road.)
  • "Socialism doesn't work" -talk radio caller. Really? Then what does? Communism doesn't work but democratic socialism works quite well, thank you. A measure of a society should be not how well you're doing but how well everyone is doing. If you're a Christian, you damned well better not disagree with that. Christ, as you know, was a socialist, and a damn good one. You won't see a Neo-Con feed a thousand people with one loaf of bread, not even that new high fibre white bread.
  • The people who will decide this election are not die hard socialists like me or the happy right wing, it's the muddy people in the middle who are stupid to embrace an ideology. It's the people who listen to Murray Wood on CJME and aren't surprised he has was given his own show (he's got a face for radio and voice for print, although he'd be a halting, awkward read.

However dumb you are, go vote. If you don't like any of the parties, spoil your ballot.

Now to go drive poor people to the poles. I tell ya, if the disenfranchised all voted, it'd be a different world.

Rod Pedersen's Friends & Business Associates: Please Don't Call Him During Rider Games

Am I the only one who is dismayed that Rod Pedersen actually answered a cell phone call during the Rider broadcast on Saturday?

"Could I call you back, I'm on the air right now," he was heard saying off-mic as he struggled to pull off his headset and take the call. Carm was apparently too shocked to fill the silence. Or he was stuffing his face with a sub. I've actually seen him eating during games when I look up at the booth with my binocs. If you guys can't focus on the game, how can the Riders?  It's your fault we lost, plain and simple.

Frankly, I think Rod should be relegated to the call-in show for one week if he likes taking calls so much while on the air.

But the bigger story is yet to be told. Who was calling him?  Who would be important enough for a broadcaster to take a call during a live sports broadcast?

Obviously Mr. Pedersen has ties to the mob.
